16 Reasons Why Copywriting is the Best Job in the World

16 Reasons Why Copywriting is the Best Job in the World

Copywriting has more advantages than just making your own schedule.

Yes, having control over your time is a huge advantage. You can wake up when you want, work when you want, and take a break when you want.

And while being in charge of your own time is a big reason why many people choose to become freelance copywriters, there are more amazing reasons why copywriting is the best job in the world.

I’m going to give you 16 reasons why I think copywriting is one of the best jobs in the world.

1. Geography

As a copywriter, you don’t have to be anywhere at any time. As long as you have access to the internet, and you have your laptop with you (sometimes you don’t even need your laptop. Your phone will do. It depends on the type of copywriting you do, though. Twitter ghostwriting, for instance), you can do your work.

If you’ve always wanted to live the life of a digital nomad, freelance copywriting is a great career choice. You won’t have to punch a timecard or go to any single location five times a week. You have the freedom to go anywhere you want when you want.

Just make sure you have access to the internet.

2. You’re not stuck with one employer

If you have a job right now, I’m super sure there are times when you got home and screamed your lungs into your pillow yelling… I hate my boss. This is typical of many employees.

Working as a freelance copywriter allows you the freedom to choose the employer you want to work with. You can even fire your employer/client if they turn out to be a pain in the ass.

The point is, that being a freelance copywriter allows you to dictate a huge part of your life and mental health.

3. You can have as many clients as you want

In a typical 9 to 5 job, if you want more money, you have to ask your boss. And the probability that you get the raise is low.

But as a freelance copywriter, if you want a raise, just go out and take on another client. That’s the beauty of freelance copywriting.

You can have as many clients as you can handle.

Or, you can even become a dropship freelance copywriter. This means that you get as many copywriting clients as you want. When you feel you can’t handle any more clients, instead of closing the lid, you can just hire other copywriters to help you out. Or literally, outsource everything to your hired copywriters.

4. No rush hour traffic

According to Forbes, the average person spends 51 hours in traffic every year. That’s two days sitting in your car… doing nothing.

And this time is even lower than pre-COVID, which was 99 hours. Wow!

But because you work from home as a freelance copywriter, you don’t have to rush out in the morning and you certainly do not have to spend time in rush hour traffic.

If you drive to work every day, calculate the amount of time you spend in traffic every day. Now multiply that number by 52.

That’s how much you spend sitting in traffic in a single year. And that’s a lot.

5. You don’t have to worry about violating company policy

Do you know who writes company policy when you’re a freelancer? You!

If you want to work with your earpiece on. Do it.

If you want to cuss your way through the workday. No one will stop you.

Want to take a break and watch an episode of The Office? Have fun.

No one will stare daggers at you through their glass office. No one will report you to HR. And no one will duck your pay. You’re in charge, baby. You’re in charge.

If you want someone to yell at you, you can write a query to yourself.

6. You don’t need permission to take a sick day

Plus, you don’t need any doctor’s note. It can be frustrating if you have to take permission to take a sick day off from work. Yes, I know.

Plus, not everyone can see a doctor every time they feel sick. And not every illness requires medical attention. You just need lots of rest and fluids. So how are you going to get a doctor’s note?

As a freelance copywriter, when you feel sick, you can take time off to take care of yourself. No one will reprimand you.

7. Copywriting is timeless

Copywriting uses a timeless principle of communication. That’s storytelling.

It even predates writing.

And yes, copywriting isn’t on the same level as ‘Tales by Moonlight’ or ‘Superstory’…

But as a copywriter, you can weave storytelling into your work. Every piece of copy you write can have a story in it. Whether it’s a long-form sales page, a welcome email, a social media caption, a Facebook ad copy, or a product description and case study.

You’re tasked with using the voice of the client or brand and telling their story persuasively and engagingly.

This is a powerful skill because you have the power to influence people and guide them toward the action you want them to take.

Keep these questions at the back of your mind when telling stories.

  • Does the message matter to the target audience?
  • Will it inspire them to want to better their lives?

As a freelance copywriter, you’re a modern storyteller who can impact lives in different lengths and forms.

8. Every business needs copywriting

Artificial intelligence (AI) will never completely replace copywriting. Why?

Because empathetic, engaging, and thought-provoking copywriting is a huge part of any business today.

Before anything is business… copywriting comes first.

This is because no department of your company can function effectively without a skilled copywriter to nail down the message of the business and what every department needs to know to effectively do their jobs.

That’s right. Every business needs a copywriter. It doesn’t matter the size of the business. Yes, the budgets, needs, and requirements of the company may differ, but they will all need a good copywriter.

9. The money is good

Copywriting can be a lucrative career.

However, understand that the client budget will vary depending on the size of the company.

Like many industries, there are small companies just starting. These companies will have a small budget. There are also medium-sized companies with a little bit more cash to spend on marketing. Then there are large businesses with many working parts that will need more copywriting services.

If you’re an experienced copywriter in your niche, you will make more money online. If you can understand their customer and speak their language, you can charge more.

One myth about copywriting is that writing the words is what makes up the bulk of our work. Nope!

Half of copywriting is done in the research process. This is where you embody the customer, understand the product, and build a customer avatar. As a copywriter, your job is to help your clients build a stronger relationship with their customers.

The more experience you have as a copywriter, the better your conversion rate, and the more money you make. This is why skilled copywriters can charge and earn thousands of dollars for one sales page.

10. It’s a valuable skill for anyone to learn

Copywriting can be useful in many professions.

When you learn how to write persuasive copy, you’ll become a better marketer, CEO, content creator, researcher, etc. Even a better friend.

When you learn the basics of copywriting, you can launch your product or yourself from the ground up in any industry you find yourself. Why?

Because writing effective copy means being able to persuade people to your way of thinking. Plus, getting people to do something for you. It’s about influence. And if you can influence anybody, the sky is the limit in your chosen career path.

11. Copywriting is fun

How many times have you been bored at work? And there’s nothing you can do about it except wait until 5 pm before you can go home and do it all over again the following day.

Not copywriting.

With copywriting, you get to write about new and exciting businesses, products, and ideas every day. You choose your clients which means that you get to choose the type of project you want to work on. If it’s something you don’t have any interest in or you don’t find interesting, you just don’t take the job.

And when you write about something you like, it shows in your work. You’ll convert better and you’ll earn better fees.

12. Copywriting is a rewarding career

As a creative, you’re sure that you will be paid well. This is because creatives are paid well to be creative.

Copywriters find the work they do stimulating and challenging because it’s not the same mind-numbing work you do constantly. As they say, variety is the spice of life.

Copywriters work with many people and departments in a company. This means that no day is ever the same.

And because they use their creativity daily, they tend to enjoy more job satisfaction.

13. Job Security

As mentioned earlier, businesses need copywriting and copywriters. This also means that you’ll have job security.

There are millions and millions of copywriters in the world. Plus, many businesses are started every month. Now, if only 1% of those businesses decide to hire copywriters, guess how many businesses that is? Plus, some businesses hire more than one copywriter.

Let’s do the math:

According to BusinessDIT, there are 334 million businesses in the world. Now, imagine only 1% of these businesses hire copywriters. How many is that? That’s 3.3 million businesses.

My friend, your job is safe.

Of course, there are still variables to job security. Your company can let you go. But because you can freelance and market your services as a copywriter, you have a safety net to land on.

14. Copywriting is a flexible career

You benefit from different pathways as a copywriter. You can work for a digital marketing or copywriting agency. Or you may want to work on staff for a brand. Or, you may want to work as a full-time freelancer for many clients. The choice is yours.

You can also choose to work from Spain today or from your kitchen in your underwear. It’s very possible.

The best thing about this is that as things change in your life, you can choose to adjust your freelance path too. If you have to move, you can choose to move from an in-house agency to working as a full-time freelancer. Your options are endless.

15. You can do it

The thing about copywriting is that anybody can do it. It’s a skill that’s reachable for anyone who is willing to work hard enough. You don’t need a fancy college degree to become a well-paid copywriter.

All you have to do is take courses, learn on YouTube or Udemy, listen to podcasts on copywriting, study all kinds of copy, and start building a portfolio.

Start small. Reach out to potential clients. You may get paid little at first. But as your skills get better and as you gain more experience, so will how much you charge your clients.

Do these and soon enough, you too will become a highly paid copywriter.

16. Copywriting can’t be automated

Many careers are not just threatened by outsourcing, they’re also threatened by automation.

But there is one job that cannot be automated. And that’s copywriting. AI comes close to writing decent copy. But it cannot replicate emotions. It’s not empathetic. And it cannot create something readers will want to engage with. That’s why AI cannot write great copy.

AI cannot feel. Therefore, it cannot write great copy.
