In this article, you’re going to learn how to trust yourself and why you should trust yourself.

I’m sure I’ve told you this story before

But if you haven’t heard it

I’ll tell it again.

In my first year at the university

I had a math test that I didn’t study for

And during the test

We were given 5 questions to answer.

I answered the first 2 myself. Then I thought…

“I didn’t read for this, I better ask someone else for the answers to the remaining 3 questions.”

So I did.

And I submitted it.

When we got our scripts back,

I got 2 questions right out of the 5.

Guess which questions I got right?

That’s correct…

The first 2 I did myself.

What’s the moral of this story?

Trust yourself.

Here’s another story about trust.

Last year,

I was running a Facebook ad to get email subscribers to my list

I watched some videos on youtube and read some blog posts about how to use the Facebook ads platform.

Then I did everything myself using my gut.

From the campaign objective to the ad set and the ad itself (location, targeting, and even the creative)

I was getting about 15 subscribers daily, (it’s this small because my daily budget was N1000)

And this was a good conversion considering the daily budget.

Then,

I bought a book from one of the top digital marketing and copywriting gurus in the business. (I’m not going to mention his name or the name of the book because it might discourage you to get it – btw, he’s a brilliant marketer)

I applied what I read in his book

And my conversion rate went down drastically.

It took me around a month to undo everything that I did and to get my subs back to the level it was.

The thing is

I’m not saying you shouldn’t listen to people who are seasoned in what they do and are very good at it

All I’m saying is

As long as you’ve done your homework to your satisfaction

And what you’re doing works

Stick to it.

If you’re going to apply anything you learned from a guru

Let your current campaign (be it Facebook ads or a sales letter) be the control while the new one be the test.

So if the new method you applied works better than the old one

Then you can scrap the old one.

This is just a lesson in trusting yourself.

But you know yourself

If you haven’t done a lick of homework,

And you know nothing about the venture you’re going into…

Get help and apply what you’ve learned.

Period.

It’ll save you a lot of headaches.
